In this role, you will own and optimize the API management ecosystem with deep specialization in Kong API Gateway. You’ll lead the implementation, configuration, and performance tuning of Kong across Kubernetes and AWS infrastructure, ensuring their APIs are secure, scalable, and highly reliable. You’ll collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to define API standards, integrate new services, and support application teams with onboarding and adoption. You’ll also build custom Lua plugins, enhance observability using Datadog, Splunk, and OTEL, and troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems. You:
You will bring the following education, skills and experience to the role:
5–8 years of hands-on experience with API management platforms, including deep expertise in Kong for configuration, optimization, and maintenance.
Proven experience operating Kong in Kubernetes and AWS, including applying patches, managing Redis caching, and building secure, scalable infrastructure.
Strong background in observability, using Datadog, Splunk, and OTEL to monitor metrics, logs, and distributed traces across API ecosystems.
Demonstrated ability to design and develop custom Kong plugins in Lua, creating reusable components for authentication, logging, rate limiting, and transformations.
Track record of partnering with architecture and engineering teams to define API standards, security policies, and onboarding workflows in a Kong SaaS environment.
Compensation:
This role pays between $70-90 per hour.
