What- The Role: 

This role supports managers and the Associate Director of Finance, reporting to the Manager of Budgets, Analysis & Business Intelligence. Responsibilities include developing and reviewing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, preparing and analyzing budgetary data, promoting process efficiencies, and coordinating the budget process.

  • Collaborates with Operating Unit Managers (OUMs) and stakeholders on budget issues, preparing financial reports, resolving problems, and ensuring compliance with budgetary policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes salary accounts, operating budgets, and monthly forecast data, performing necessary budget transfers and addressing significant variances.
  • Maintains and approves the position control number (PCN) system, ensuring correct coding, budget allocation, and data integrity.
  • Supports the budget process by assisting with preparation, evaluating submissions, reviewing change requests, and reconciling budgets in systems like TM1 and Banner.
  • Develops and delivers training on budgeting and forecasting for managers, providing ongoing technical support and ensuring systems and reports meet stakeholder needs.
  • Prepares analysis for budget and forecast reviews, identifies and discusses anomalies, recommends procedural and policy changes, and initiates solutions for budget, forecast, or position control concerns.
  • Participates in internal committees related to budget matters, compiles budget information, and prepares consolidated annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and payroll reports.
  • Conducts ad-hoc analysis, financial modeling, and assists with maintaining and reconciling payroll data elements to ensure consistency and compliance.

Who- The Candidate: 

  • CPA designation.
  • Three to five years' experience in analytical, financial reporting, budget development, forecasting, and capital fund accounting roles.
  • Experience with ERP systems like Banner and Business Intelligence tools.
  • Adherence to GAAP and the ability to make informed recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with all organizational levels.

What- the Role: 

Our client is looking for a well-rounded and hands-on individual to join their entrepreneurial team as an Accountant. Reporting directly to the company’s Owner/President and working with a close-knit team of folks in sales, marketing, warehouse & inventory management, etc., who all collaborate closely. The new Accountant will take care of accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, journal entries, credit card & bank reconciliations (5+ credit cards, 2+ bank accounts), tax remittances (preparing GST returns, year-end tax forms), payroll (fairly straightforward payroll for ~20 people), etc., for 2 active business entities. Additionally, the Accountant will support with occasional administrative tasks, as this company has a “we’re all working together and we all wear many hats” kind of culture.
This is a permanent part-time employee role, 4 days a week (i.e. 80% schedule). Please discuss with SWIM which days a week and how many hours a day you are able and wanting to work, as there is some flexibility on the work schedule for this role.

Who- the Candidate:

This is a well-rounded role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment and who is hands-on in their approach. This is a unique opportunity to have direct accountability for the accounting and bookkeeping at an established company where you can get direct insight into the innerworkings of the business. Great communication skills are key. The Accountant will liaise internally with all colleagues, as well as externally with auditors, suppliers, vendors, and customers. Strong Excel skills are required, as is an interest in optimizing the use of other financial systems.

  • 3+ years relevant full-cycle accounting experience.
    • A mix of corporate accounting and operational accounting is ideal- especially exposure to accounting in an inventory-based organization.
  • Relevant post-secondary education related to accounting- such as an accounting certificate, an accounting diploma, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Friendly and reliable team player;
  • Ability to manage several competing priorities at once;
  • Detailed oriented, resourceful, and analytical with good problem-solving and critical thinking abilities;
  • Systems:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (look-ups, pivot tables, sum-if, etc.);
    • Understanding of mid-size financial systems (i.e. QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, etc.) and payroll systems (i.e. ADP, PayWorks, Ceridian, etc.)

 

How Much:

The compensation will be equivalent to $25 to $33 an hour, with a sweet spot of around $28 to $30 an hour (compensation will be annualized based on agreed upon 80% work schedule and will be based on level of work experience, accounting skills, and education). Please note that candidates will need to have all the qualifications and many years of relevant accounting work experience to be considered at the high end of the range. Where:  

Full-time in office during initial training and onboarding. After that, the Accountant can likely start to work from home up to 50% of their work week. The office is based in Richmond. What- the Role:

The Accounts Payable Administrator will ensure the timely and accurate processing of payment documents such as invoices, contractor and lease operator payments and transactions, employee expenses, and any other accounting transactions related to Accounts Payable (AP) management. This includes updating and maintaining financial spreadsheets, reconciliations, and performing other administrative duties of the AP and Finance Department.   • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of AP data, including invoices and payments
  • Respond to and process requests submitted via email and telephone
  • Answer queries and complaints from vendors with respect to payment status and diffuse any potential issues

How Much: 

Very generous compensation total package commensurate with taxation skills, work experience, and qualifications- likely in the range of $140,000 to $176,000. Please note that for the high end of the range, candidates will need to have all/most of the nice-to-haves and well over 10 years of progressive experience. There is opportunity for annual salary raises based on performance.

What- the Role:

Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to join their collaborative team. This individual will report directly into the VP Finance and will have a Senior Accountant as a direct report.
This is a well-rounded role involving external and internal financial reporting, multi-currency consolidations (for ~10 entities), routine and ad hoc management reports (for the Senior Leadership Team, Board, and Audit Committee), MD&A, preparing full sets of financial statements, budget vs. actual variance analysis, balance sheet income statements, some treasury and cashflow management (including weekly cash position reports), etc. The new Controller will also collaborate with external tax consultants to ensure the company’s tax requirements are being met. Internal controls are also a component of this role, including annual controls testing and ongoing updating of controls processes.
The Financial Controller will directly manage, mentor, and develop the Senior Accountant. They will also build relationships across the organization in all departments and will get to know the mining operations.

Who- the Candidate:

We are seeking candidates with at least 5 years of relevant and progressive work experience, and ideally 7+ years. We are ideally seeking candidates who are already in management at a mining company or who have been at manager-level in a multi-national public practice firm for 2+ years. To be successful in this role, the Financial Controller will be able to work independently with little supervision but will also be a collaborative and communicative team player. Qualifications include ability to multi-task, excellent communication skills, willingness to take on a variety of corporate tasks, a results-oriented approach to work, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
 

Qualifications- Work Experience, Education & Skills:

Education

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for an individual with at least 2 years and preferably 4+ years specializing in project analysis/project accounting. This experience can be gained from the construction sector, or perhaps engineering, infrastructure, etc. Must have hands-on experience building sophisticated pro formas in Excel. Qualified candidates for this role will be adept at collaborating with Project Managers, and being able to understand the progress and nuances of the project beyond just the numbers. Must have experience with large projects (minimum $20M budget and ideally $100M+, minimum 1 year timeline and ideally 2+ years).

Some form of accounting & finance post-secondary education is required- perhaps a Financial Management Diploma from BCIT or Langara, an Accounting Certificate, a Bachelor of Commerce with Accounting concentration, etc. Pursuit of CPA designation or PMP (project management professional) certification is very beneficial.

Proficiency in Excel is required (pivot tables, V look-ups, etc.), and experience using an ERP and/or construction-centric software is strongly preferred. Candidates will have a friendly, clear, and professional communication style, and will love collaborating and relationship building.
 

How Much:

Competitive base salary commensurate with level of project analysis skills, relevant work experience, and relevant accounting & finance education- likely in the range of $80,000 to maximum $100,000.  The company will provide their new Project Analyst with a solid overall compensation package, including a discretionary performance-based bonus, an RRSP match (after a wait period), paid vacation and sick days, relevant professional development support, and excellent physical health, mental health, and dental benefits.

What- the Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day accounting & finance function.
  • Responsible for reporting including period end reporting, annual reporting, Governmental reporting (including Ministry of Health and Health Authorities, under the Hospital Act), and ad hoc internal reporting to the Board.
  • Liaise with external audit firm at year-end.
  • Oversee outsourced IT provider. Manage the upgrading of hardware and software as needed. Monitor cybersecurity for the organization.
  • Provide decision support and business guidance to the Executive team. 
  • Hands-on management of cash flow estimates, forecasts, budgets, banking, and tax returns.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis.

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for a well-rounded business leader who has experience overseeing and managing the accounting, finance, and payroll functions of a small company, and preferably also the IT function. Experience in the healthcare sector is highly preferred. Experience with a not-for-profit (NPO) organization and/or an organization with unionized employees is also an asset.  CPA accounting designation (or International equivalent).
Experience managing, mentoring, and performance managing 2+ direct reports. Experience reporting into a CEO or President is preferred, as is experience working with a Board of Directors and Finance Committee.

What - the Role:

As mentioned, the role reports to the VP Finance as well as working closely with the CFO, for example, in supporting M&A activities from a tax standpoint. The tax team consists of a couple of tax accountants in the US, and you will also have support and assistance from the company’s external tax advisors in Vancouver. 

Primarily, your role will involve managing tax compliance work for both the US and Canada, accounting for approximately 60% of the position, with the remaining 40% focusing on tax planning and strategic duties.  You will also have oversight of tax compliance and planning when the company enters new global jurisdictions.

  • Oversee the process, preparation and filing of Canadian and US corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, state, and local tax laws.
  • Co Manage the accurate and timely remittance of tax payments, including direct and indirect taxes with both Canadian and US Corporate Controllers and their staff.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

  • Conduct tax research and stay current with changes in tax legislation in both Canada and the US.

Who - the Candidate:

You will have management/ senior management level experience in corporate tax, with exposure to both Canadian and US tax regulations, and you may be working within a public practice firm, or in an in-house function; they are very open to both.

Experience within a mining or forestry business or working with mining or forestry clients is nice to have, but not must, and a full CPA designation is sought.

Our client is looking for a dynamic and hands-on individual to join their fast-paced entrepreneurial team as an Assistant Manager, Financial Reporting. Candidates will have already achieved their CPA accounting designation.  
The new employee will focus on financial reporting and corporate close, with some involvement in tax and internal controls. The Assistant Manager will be in frequent communication with accountants working in Vancouver and in other offices, many of whom are CPAs who trained in a large public practice accounting firm.

Who- the Candidate:

We are seeking designated CPAs (Canadian CPAs or US CPAs) with 4+ years’ of relevant work experience. Public practice training is highly preferred and industry experience is an asset. A high-performing Senior Associate direct out of a large public practice firm can be very successful in this role.  Ideally seeking accountants with recent and relevant experience with public company reporting. We are looking for well-rounded accounting professionals with a track record of success in their career and education. Great communication skills and a high EQ are key. Strong Excel skills are required.  
 

How Much:

Base salary commensurate with experience, education, and skills- in the range of $90,000 to $108,000. Please note that for the top end, candidates will need many years of relevant experience and highly relevant skills in public company accounting. There is also an achievable performance-based bonus, good benefits and vacation time, and professional development support.

Do you have strong knowledge of IFRS and multi-entity consolidations experience and 5+ years leading teams? Who- the Company:
Our client, a high growth publicly traded real estate investment and development company has a portfolio of significant development opportunities.

What- the Role:
Reporting to the CFO, the VP Finance will manage the consolidation accounting of the company and all its subsidiaries. This includes overseeing cash, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, debt, payroll, and stock option accounting. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the accounting department functions while leading, coaching, and mentoring department staff. Some recruiting and onboarding will be required, as we grow.

  • Ensure that all financial accounting duties and public and internal reporting (month-end, quarter-end, and year-end) are completed in a timely and accurate manner. 

  • Manage the regulatory requirements with respect to quarterly and year-end financial statements and other filings.

  • Manage compliance with tax filings and requirements for both corporate and sales taxes.

  • Oversee business operations which include setting up accounting and reporting systems, implementing internal controls and systems procedures, payables/receivables, payroll, processes, and policies.

  • Resident expert for any technical accounting issues/analyses with respect to IFRS compliance.

  • Manage system selection and implementation including planning, accounting, payroll, expense, and reporting systems, together with implementation of internal controls processes, and policies.

Who- the Candidate:

  • A bachelor’s degree and CPA accounting designation

  • 15 years of progressive experience, including the last 5+ years leading a team

  • Big 4 experience, and experience in real estate development sector preferred

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and multi-entity consolidations

  • Sound knowledge of appropriate controls and ability to review and improve processes and controls

  • Superior leadership skills, communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills

  • Strong organizational and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail

  • Strategic thinker and problem solver

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid, high growth and collaborative environment

  • Strong excel skills and systems experience
