This is one of the best payroll manager opportunities in the lower mainland right now!  Our client is an incredibly successful, stable, and well-established Canadian company that is growing very quickly- both organically and through acquisitions. The company is looking for an experienced Payroll Leader who loves to mentor, organize, streamline, improve, and support. Leading a team of 4 direct reports.

    Who- the Company:

Our client was established decades ago and has evolved to become one of the largest in their industry in Canada. The company has been growing by leaps and bounds- both organically and via acquisitions.  Many of their employees have been with the company for 10 years or more, which speaks volumes about the organization’s values and commitment to their people and their customers. In the last couple years the organization has undertaken major business and digital transformations. The company has been hiring very impressive leadership, and it’s a very well-respected and well-managed business in a backbone industry that is relatively recession-proof (for example, no lay-offs occurred due to Covid-19).

    What- the Role:

Our client is looking to hire a new Manager, Payroll who will lead, coach, mentor, and support a team of 4 direct reports. The payroll team is responsible for the hands-on processing of an approximately 1500-employee multi-province payroll- and that number is constantly growing! Most employees are salaried, but there are also hourly employees, and there is a commission payroll component. The company has recently implemented new HRIS, and the Payroll team is optimizing their use of this sophisticated system.  Because the company has been growing exponentially via acquisitions, there is a lot of interesting post-acquisition integration work to contribute to with the goal of streamlining the company’s payroll processes. Swim Recruiting will provide interested candidates with a more detailed job description.

    Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for a proven Payroll professional with at least 5 years’ relevant and recent experience leading a payroll function and mentoring direct reports.

    • Experience managing a payroll of well over 1000 employees is required.
    • CPM certification is highly preferred.
    • Robust experience with BC is required, and must have experience processing payroll in at least one other Canadian province (Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario in particular)
    • Experience with commission payroll is beneficial.
    • Systems savvy, with hands-on experience using processing payroll in an HRIS (Workday, Ultimate, Ceridian, SAP, Oracle, etc.)

In addition to the technical skills, we are seeking individuals who are down-to-earth, humble, assertive, knowledgeable, helpful, and curious. Great communication skills are crucial, as is a self-motivated work style and the ability to encourage a team-player attitude among direct reports. Our client is a very values-based company that seeks out employees who embody their culture of mutual respect, efficiency, honesty, and customer service.

    How Much:

Very competitive base salary commensurate with the hired individual’s experience and qualifications. Please discuss further with Swim.

    Where:

Greater Vancouver. Currently most employees of this company are working from home due to Covid-19 physical distancing. Longer term the Payroll Manager will work from the corporate HQ.
