What- the Role:

Due to the company’s ongoing growth, the Company is seeking a new Group Controller. The Controller will have 2 Divisional Controllers as direct reports, as well as 4 other direct reports and 4+ indirect reports. 
The portfolio of responsibilities is varied and includes period-end close, team mentorship and coaching, oversight and analysis of financial statement preparation, accounting process improvements, budget preparation, financial system optimization, etc. SWIM will provide interested candidates with a detailed job description! 

Who- the Candidate:

  • Canadian CPA designation (or International equivalent). 
  • Relevant hands-on experience with financial reporting and consolidations for a complex, multi-entity organization.
  • We are seeking a proven people leader who has managed a team of at least 5 direct reports, preferably also with experience with a few indirect reports (i.e. having a middle-manager layer)
  • Experience working for a company that is growing (organically and through M&A) is highly preferred. 
  • Public practice training is preferred, but not required. 
  • Strong experience with financial systems is needed for this role, including system optimization and process improvements. It is an asset if a candidate has directly participated in a major financial system implementation or upgrade project. 
  • Experience in an operations-heavy and industrially oriented company is an asset, but not at all required for a quick and eager learner.

What - the Role:

Reporting to the CFO, the Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible for all activities relating to internal and external financial reporting requirements. The role will oversee the implementation of financial accounting and reporting standards and implement reporting best practices within the company. The position will also be key player in defining and implementing internal controls and leading the financial audits for the company.

The Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible leading a small professional team of accountants to support all reporting requirements. The position will also work closely with other members of the Finance team to ensure consistency and compliance to financial controls and frameworks across the company. The Director will also interact with external auditors and other stakeholders where needed.

Responsibilities 
  • Lead all aspects of the internal and external financial reporting requirements, ensuring that statements comply with public company regulatory requirements and meet the needs of internal stakeholders for effective decision making
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and MD&A for public filing
  • Lead the annual audit and quarterly reviews to ensure a favorable audit opinion in collaboration with external auditors
  • Work proactively with external auditors to address and drive timely closure of technical accounting matters
  • Develop and monitor the company’s accounting policies and internal controls to ensure integrity of financial and accounting information and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Proactively review and improve existing finance processes and systems, and develop new processes to support business evolution where applicable
  • Evaluate accounting implications and develop accounting processes to support the integration of new business acquisitions into the company’s financial reporting framework
  • Assist in business systems implementation, process automation, improvements and streamlining of existing processes
  • Support accounting and financial due diligence on acquisitions and strategic investments
  • Assess and document the accounting impact and required disclosures for major transactions, including significant contracts acquisitions, equity offerings and other complex transactions
  • Provide IFRS interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Supervise and coach other junior members of the team

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will provide strategic insight into financial and operating trends in support of the company’s continued growth, financial support of business cases and decisions, and play a key role in annual budgeting and forecasting. The role will deliver value-added financial analysis and meaningful related reports that lead to insightful and accurate business decision making, support external budget and other financial reporting preparation, analysis, and related communications. 
Reporting to the CFO, the Director, FP&A will work closely with the executive team and other senior leaders to model business decisions and support M&A related activities. The role will also be an important member of the Finance team, partnering with other Finance professionals to provide sound financial guidance and recommendations to the business. Working with Investor Relations will also occur to ensure conclusions for analyst reports and other stakeholder presentations are accurate. 
Responsibilities 
  • Directly provide ongoing FP&A support to the functional areas of the business, and as needed on an ad-hoc basis 
  • Partner with the senior leadership team to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the company’s mission, vision and business objectives 
  • Manage the corporate financial model including running scenario analysis 
  • Develop deep understanding of financial assumptions within the business 
  • Build rolling financial forecasting processes and controls to ensure accuracy of results produced 
  • Develop, prepare/review financial models for complex business cases and decision support 
  • Oversee the preparation of clear, metric-based, financial plans, including annual budgets, rolling-forecasts, long-range plans, and related updates 
  • Support investor communications with thought-out financial analyses and review of the company’s financial positions 
  • Analyze cost savings opportunities, develop project plans and monitor progress and results 
  • Participate in M&A activities to evaluate potential new acquisitions targets and provide recommendations on purchase 
  • Perform ROI analysis and prepare business cases for new products and growth initiatives. Test assumptions and perform robust scenario analysis, benchmarking against competitors and external data 
  • Build and optimize the FP&A function, including creation of automated and scalable processes, reporting and systems 

Who - the Candidate:

  • CPA designation required 
  • 10-15 years of proven experience in progressively complex Finance roles

Who - the Company: 

Our client is a CPG product line found in retailers across the United States, focused on developing products for a niche market. The organization is headquartered in US with operations supported by a dedicated team based in Vancouver. The reputable executive team is very experienced, and the company had shown incredible growth year over year. 

What - the Role:

Director of Human Resources, reporting to the CEO. The Director will own the HR function for the organization and will be responsible for the team across North America, and will develop and implement policies and procedures for various areas including performance management, compensation analysis, develop initiatives that diversify the team and create an inclusive culture, and assist with recruitment.

Who - the Candidate:

We are looking for a proven HR leader with 8+ years of progressive HR experience and at least 3 years in a leadership role, experience with being part of top-level leadership in a high growth environment and understanding of Board Governance. Must have knowledge of Canadian Employment Standards Legislations. CPHR designation would be an asset.

Who- the Company:

Exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing media company that has experienced great growth over the past year with more growth on the horizon. 

What- the Role:  

The new VP Finance will be a member our client’s senior leadership team and be responsible for overseeing all finance-related activities for their studio including: financial and management reporting, internal controls, external and internal audit, cash management, FP&A, production accounting and budgeting, profitability and margin analysis, and business development & strategy support. In addition, you will be responsible for providing guidance and compliance to support our client’s successful company operations and deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Who – the Candidate:

In addition to CPA qualification, candidates require 7-10 years progressive experience. Candidates with public company and media industry experience are favourable. A natural leader, you posses excellent interpersonal and communication skills, build rapport easily, thrive in a fast-paced environment.  We are seeking a confident, and experienced VP Finance who has led a team through growth and change, someone who has high quality output, a ‘marathoner’, who can push and propel the team forward.
