Who- the Company:  

We are seeking a new full-time, permanent Controller for a group of publicly-listed mineral exploration companies (various metals, many geographies, well-diversified). The new Controller will report into the Group CFO, will manage and mentor accountants. The Controller will also liaise with regional accounting teams and external consultants. The individual will work indirectly with the Chairman and Executives of the Companies they manage. This Company has a tightknit accounting & finance team under a shared service model. What- the Role: 

The Controller’s portfolio of responsibilities will be diverse and will include Financial Reporting and Financial Operations for the publicly-listed mineral exploration companies. Who- the Candidate: 

Qualified candidates will have solid experience in (and a true passion for!) the exciting and high change junior mineral exploration sector.
  • 7 to 15 years progressive experience in accounting & finance, preferably with 2+ years specifically in mining, construction, infrastructure, or other similar project-based industry.
  • CPA accounting designation, or international equivalent, is required.
  • Public practice training is preferred. Candidates must have experience in industry. 
  • Experience in public company accounting, ideally with TSX and TSX-V listed corporations.
  • International exposure in a work context is highly preferred (i.e. overseeing global operations, living abroad) especially to the US and South American countries.
    • Spanish language skills are an asset. 
  • Excellent technical accounting skills, including knowledge of IFRS
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong critical thinking skills 
  • Systems savvy and eager to learn and master new software and tools. This company is completely paperless and uses a variety of cloud-based tools for the digital documentation of data.

Where:

  • Canadian CPA Accounting Designation or International equivalent. 
  • 8+ years progressive accounting and finance experience.

What - the Role:

Reporting to the CFO, the Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible for all activities relating to internal and external financial reporting requirements. The role will oversee the implementation of financial accounting and reporting standards and implement reporting best practices within the company. The position will also be key player in defining and implementing internal controls and leading the financial audits for the company.

The Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible leading a small professional team of accountants to support all reporting requirements. The position will also work closely with other members of the Finance team to ensure consistency and compliance to financial controls and frameworks across the company. The Director will also interact with external auditors and other stakeholders where needed.

Responsibilities 
  • Lead all aspects of the internal and external financial reporting requirements, ensuring that statements comply with public company regulatory requirements and meet the needs of internal stakeholders for effective decision making
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and MD&A for public filing
  • Lead the annual audit and quarterly reviews to ensure a favorable audit opinion in collaboration with external auditors
  • Work proactively with external auditors to address and drive timely closure of technical accounting matters
  • Develop and monitor the company’s accounting policies and internal controls to ensure integrity of financial and accounting information and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Proactively review and improve existing finance processes and systems, and develop new processes to support business evolution where applicable
  • Evaluate accounting implications and develop accounting processes to support the integration of new business acquisitions into the company’s financial reporting framework
  • Assist in business systems implementation, process automation, improvements and streamlining of existing processes
  • Support accounting and financial due diligence on acquisitions and strategic investments
  • Assess and document the accounting impact and required disclosures for major transactions, including significant contracts acquisitions, equity offerings and other complex transactions
  • Provide IFRS interpretation and prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Supervise and coach other junior members of the team

Who - the Candidate:

  • CPA professional designation required
  • 10-15 years of proven experience in progressively complex Finance roles
  • Experience with growth stage company is an asset

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will provide strategic insight into financial and operating trends in support of the company’s continued growth, financial support of business cases and decisions, and play a key role in annual budgeting and forecasting. The role will deliver value-added financial analysis and meaningful related reports that lead to insightful and accurate business decision making, support external budget and other financial reporting preparation, analysis, and related communications. 
Reporting to the CFO, the Director, FP&A will work closely with the executive team and other senior leaders to model business decisions and support M&A related activities. The role will also be an important member of the Finance team, partnering with other Finance professionals to provide sound financial guidance and recommendations to the business.   • Support investor communications with thought-out financial analyses and review of the company’s financial positions 
  • Analyze cost savings opportunities, develop project plans and monitor progress and results 
  • Participate in M&A activities to evaluate potential new acquisitions targets and provide recommendations on purchase 
  • Perform ROI analysis and prepare business cases for new products and growth initiatives. Test assumptions and perform robust scenario analysis, benchmarking against competitors and external data 
  • Build and optimize the FP&A function, including creation of automated and scalable processes, reporting and systems 

Who - the Candidate:

  • CPA designation required 
  • 10-15 years of proven experience in progressively complex Finance roles 
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience 
  • Experience in growth stage company is an asset 
  • Strong financial modeling skills and ability to analyze data and performance 
  • Experience in business case building and presentations 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
