Our client has many decades of history in British Columbia and has grown to become one of the largest privately-held companies based in Vancouver. The company is a very stable organization with diversified operations, a multi-year billion-dollar contract with a significant client, and a bright future. What- the Role:

On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a new Payroll Manager. The Payroll Manager will have 4 to 5 direct reports who are processing multiple payrolls (salary & hourly, unionized & non-unionized). Reporting into a Director. The Payroll Manager will ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of their payroll team, while also leading process improvements, payroll-related projects, payroll analysis, payroll system optimization, and generally leading payroll strategy for the entire corporation. The payroll team uses an ERP-based payroll system, Excel, and various timekeeping systems. SWIM will provide interested and qualified candidates with a thorough job description.
 

Who- the Candidate:

We are seeking candidates with at least 10 years’ progressive experience in payroll. Qualified candidates will have experience leading payroll teams of at least 4 people. Must have experience leading a payroll team that is processing multiple payrolls for well over 5000 employees, including hourly, salary, unionized, and non-unionized. PCP and/or CPM certifications are highly preferred. We are looking for payroll leaders who are natural mentors, and who coach and lead their team through positive change. Candidates must be very strong with systems, and eager to seek out process improvements and new opportunities for automation. Ideally candidates will have worked through a payroll system implementation project in their career.
 

Where:

Headquartered in Greater Vancouver (not in downtown Vancouver). Hybrid schedule- please discuss further with SWIM.   
 

How Much:

The Payroll Manager’s base salary will be commensurate with their number of years of payroll management and team leadership work experience, their relevant qualifications and education, and the depth and breadth of their technical payroll skills.  Additionally, the Payroll Manager will be eligible for a performance-based bonus, a pension matching plan, excellent health, dental & vision benefits, and health & wellness perks such as paid gym memberships.  For now, the range for the base salary is around $118,000 to $150,000- please note the high end is reserved for candidates who have all of the sought-after qualifications and a high level of relevant work experience.

Great opportunity for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join a very successful and well-established multi-national company in an exciting industry.

What- the Role:

The Payroll Administrator’s role is to ensure the efficient, effective, and accurate flow of financial information for multiple financial activities relating to company bi-weekly payroll functions (salary/non-union hourly and union hourly). Other responsibilities include overseeing the processing of journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and various other accounting functions. The Payroll Administrator will work with Finance and HR departments to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date. Integrity and strong attention to detail are crucial for this role.

  • Assist in the preparation and administration of payroll for all company employees, while auditing payroll processing reports for accuracy.
  • Ensure that all salaries are paid accurately and in a timely fashion to all company employees, contractors, and other parties.
  • Prepare journal entries and forms, such as records of employment, income tax forms, and remittances. Perform off-schedule payments, such as replacement cheques, termination pays, lump sum payments
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests.
  • Implement salary increases, bonuses, commissions, in accordance with instructions given.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Finance and HR department to ensure pay and personnel records are accurate and up to date.
  • Assist in the administration of employee programs (e.g. health benefits, stock option plans, etc.).
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and compliance regulations participate in identifying hazards.
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics.
  • Prepare analysis and/or reports as required by manager.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed and filed appropriately whether internally or with 3rd parties (i.e. employee file paperwork where applicable).
  • Ensure all files are organized and maintained and all office processes are streamlined for most efficient and effective operation.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Assist others on the team to ensure successful payroll.
  • Provide internal and external Customer Service excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

 

Who- the Candidate:

  • Relevant Post-Secondary Education in Accounting, and/or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Avanti and Epicor is an asset along with the ability to quickly learn new computer applications
  • Experience dealing with yearend audits, income tax reporting, account reconciliations and various government remittances are also required.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, and policies.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Strong safety mindset

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective organizational and time management skills

 

How Much:

Base salary commensurate with level of experience, skills, and education in the range of $65,000 - $80,000 + a robust compensation package and free transit pass- please discuss with SWIM
 

Where:

Based in the company’s Vancouver head office. Hybrid working schedule of Mon-Tues-Wed in-office and Thurs-Fri remote.
