Intellectual Property Paralegal
Amazing opportunity for a Paralegal with trademark and patent experience.
Our client offers a hybrid working environment of 3 days in-office and 2 remote days. Also open to a remote position for Toronto based candidates.
This is a 17-month contract.

What- The Role:
This role provides essential paralegal support to the Intellectual Property (IP) team. The Paralegal will manage documentation, monitor critical deadlines, and assist in coordinating various IP projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal guidelines.
- Manage documentation, including patent and trademark applications, assignments, and legal filings.
- Review Invention Disclosure and Patent Assets records to ensure accuracy and completion
- Communicating with external counsel regarding missing documents
- Conduct IP legal research and prepare report and presentation for business stakeholders
- Prepare cover letter/email templates
- Retrieve trademark information from local trademark database, including but not limited to CIPO, USPTO and WIPO
- Organize and maintain IP-related records in databases, ensuring accuracy and updates.
- Track and monitor deadlines for IP filings, renewals, and maintenance, ensuring timely submissions and compliance.
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of legal documents, reports, and presentations for internal teams and external partners.
- Maintain detailed records in legal databases and prepare status reports.
- Coordinate communication between internal teams, external counsel, and stakeholders regarding IP matters and documentation requirements.
- Support brand protection initiatives, including tracking investigations into counterfeit goods and monitoring online platforms.
- Prepare documentation for IP enforcement actions and assist with related administrative tasks.
- Provide project support for IP initiatives, ensuring proper documentation, scheduling, and progress reporting.
- Conduct preliminary legal research to support IP processes.
Who – The Candidate:
- 3+ years of administrative experience in IP environment.
- Knowledge of Patent/Trademark Law in Canada, US and international
- Knowledge of patent/trademark filing and prosecution processes and requirements
- Experience with patent docketing systems
- Experience with electronic research systems/databases
- Paralegal certification or diploma required.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software with and an aptitude to learn new software and technology.
- Strong organizational and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively
- Detail-oriented, accurate and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Responsible, reliable, punctual and able to work productively in a hybrid work environment.
How much:
$40-46.50/hr commensurate with experience + 4% vacation pay
