Our client is a successful, stable, and well-established Canadian company based in Surrey, BC. The company is looking for a Junior Analyst to support reporting on their commission payroll team. This is a 4-to-6-month contract with a Monday January 5th start date, with decent chance for contract extension or possibly even conversion to full-time employment if a great long-term match on both sides and business needs align.

Who- the Company:

Our client was established decades ago and has evolved to become one of the largest in their industry in Canada. The company has been growing by leaps and bounds- both organically and via acquisitions.  Many of their employees have been with the company for 10 years or more, which speaks volumes about the organization’s values and commitment to their people and their customers.  In the last couple years, the organization has undertaken major business and digital transformations.

What- the Role:

Our client is looking to hire a Junior Analyst on a contract basis (4 month to 6 month term, with chance for extension and possibly even for conversion to permanent employment). Reporting into the Senior Manager, Payroll & Benefits and working with others on the tightknit payroll team.

The contractor will be responsible for downloading and running payroll commission reports (for the sales people who earn commission-based compensation), reviewing/analyzing/formatting the payroll commission data, and sharing the results and reports with relevant Managers. The Jr Analyst will be using plenty of Excel, as well as an industry-specific software.

The person in this role is not actively involved in processing payroll, they are more so focused on commission payroll reporting. In addition to the day-to-day of this role, the contractor may also help with payroll automation and process improvements.

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for candidates with at least 3 years of relevant and transferable work experience in a corporate setting. Experience working on a payroll & benefits team is highly preferred- but we may also consider candidates who have worked in other corporate departments in a similar junior analyst function (for example, in HR, accounting, sales, etc.).

Candidates must have experience running/downloading/analyzing reports, and ensuring accuracy before presenting those reports to others in the business.

Qualified candidates will have solid intermediate to advanced level proficiency in Excel, and be able/willing to quickly learn how to use another system.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are important in this role.

We are looking for people who are reliable, accurate, detail-oriented, efficient, and who are confident communicating with a variety of internal stakeholders on different corporate teams.

Someone successful in this role will have a self-motivated work style and a team-player attitude.

Ideally candidates will live in Surrey and/or close to a SkyTrain station, so that the commute is a good one for them.

Our client is a values-based company that seeks out employees who embody their culture of mutual respect, efficiency, honesty, and customer service.

How Much:

Hourly rate commensurate with the hired individual’s experience, education, and qualifications, likely in the range of $27.50 to $32 an hour (perhaps with some wiggle room for someone who has very relevant experience).

If/when converted to full-time employment, please note that this company provides their employees with competitive health & dental benefits, relevant learning & development support, an RRSP match, and other great employee perks. This company also offers great work/life balance. Please discuss your hourly rate and salary expectations further with Swim Recruiting!

Where:

HYBRID. The company is headquartered in Surrey and the Junior Analyst will work from the beautiful head office 2 days a week, with the option to work from home up to 3 days a week as long as the contractor has a very good home office set-up with reliable internet (work laptop will be provided on temporary basis). Very close to a SkyTrain station, as well as various bus lines.

When & How to Apply:

Interviews commence in early December, and a hiring decision will be made by middle of December. The contractor will start the job on Monday January 5th, after the Christmas and New Year break

Well-rounded Director-level role, leading total rewards for a high-growth and high-change not-for-profit organization that is doing important work in BC communities. Good work/life integration, solid benefits and overall compensation, hybrid work schedule (working ~2 days/week at home). Based in Surrey.

Who- the Company:

Our client is a not-for-profit values-based organization that provides essential programs and services to the communities they support. The organization is currently over 350 employees plus a Board of Directors, with a growing HR department.

What- the Role:

On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a Director, Total Rewards who will report directly into the Head of People & Culture. This is a newly created position due to the ongoing growth and positive change at the organization. The Director will lead a team of six (6) including two (2) direct reports (a Payroll & Benefits Manager and a Manager, Compensation) and three (3) indirect reports (all on the Payroll & Benefits team). There is also a Director, People & Culture (who leads business partnering, employee relations, talent acquisition, learning & development, etc.) and people in other P&C functions (Generalists, Advisors, Recruiter, etc) for a total P&C Team of 15.
The Director of Total Rewards will lead:

  • Compensation Strategy (the new Manager, Compensation will be directly supporting in this area).
  • Reward & Recognition Programs (the Manager, Compensation will also support this area).
  • Payroll (the Payroll Manager and their team do the hands-on payroll processing for the over 350 employees, almost entirely in BC, almost entirely salaried, entirely non-unionized).
  • Pension & Benefits Administration.
  • HR Analytics.
  • HRIS Optimization
  • Workforce Planning and Organizational Development (in partnership with other P&C leaders).

Who- the Candidate:

We are looking for an individual with at least 10 years of progressive human resources and total rewards work experience, with a focus on compensation (role evaluation, job descriptions and reclassifications, pay-for-performance bonus programs, recognition programs, performance management systems, etc.) and payroll (leading/supporting/coaching a payroll team, the Director doesn’t necessarily have to have hands-on processed the payroll before).
Experience working in a relevant sector is highly preferred- i.e. Government, NPO, and/or public sector- preferably supporting an employee population of at least 300 people.
Some form of HR education is required (a degree, certificate, diploma, CPHR designation, etc.), and CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) is particularly desirable for this role.
Experience using a sophisticated multi-module HRIS is important, and we are looking for candidates who are confident using technology.  Experience with post-implementation HRIS optimization and the ongoing implementation of new modules and functions is highly desirable. Proficiency in Excel is key in this role as both the Director and the Manager of Compensation will conduct Excel-based compensation analysis.
Qualified candidates will have a friendly, clear, and professional communication style, and will have a caring and compassionate approach. Natural leadership abilities are crucial in this role- we are looking for a Director who leads by example, walks the walk when it comes to embodying their personal and professional values, and who can hold their team accountable to deadlines while leading with empathy.

How Much:

Base salary is commensurate with skills, experience, and education related to HR and compensation, likely in the range of $108,000 to $138,000. The overall compensation package is very generous-  the new Director will be on a Pension Plan, will receive a competitive amount of paid time off (vacation days, personal days, sick days, extra time off in late December), and will also get professional development support (for CCP studies, for example), excellent health & dental benefits (100% employer paid), and a small transit subsidy.

Where:

HYBRID. The company is headquartered in Surrey, very close to a Skytrain station. There is both free and paid parking nearby. Initially the Director will work from the office 3-4 days a week as they are onboarding and building in-person relationships across the organization. Longer term, the Director can work from home ~2 days a week.
