What- the Role:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a new Senior Accountant. This is a senior individual contributor role and reports into the Financial Controller who is based in another country, while also collaborating closely with accounting & tax colleagues in Vancouver. This is a full-cycle accounting role with the following responsibilities for a corporate group of approximately 15 entities:
- Undertake end to end accounting for corporate holding and management company, including responsibility for the general ledgers, bank payments, expense card management, forecasting corporate costs and financial reporting
- Building collaborative working relationships with stakeholders across Canada and overseas
- Liaising with the external audit team
- Responding to analysis and queries from the global business and parent entity
- Technical accounting support as required
- Staying abreast of accounting legislation changes to ensure organisational compliance
Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for a self-motivated Accountant who enjoys working autonomously as well as part of a team.
- Qualifications:
- Relevant post-secondary education (business, commerce, finance, accounting, etc.).
- CPA designation is required (or on track to achieve designation in 2025)
- Work Experience:
- At least 4 years’ of relevant and progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in both public practice and industry is highly preferred, but candidates with experience in only one or the other will also be considered.
- It is highly preferred that candidates have exposure to the accounting processes of a multi-national public company (as a client or in-house).
- Technical Skills:
- Hands-on exposure to financial reporting under IFRS
- Consolidations experience, preferably with hands-on experience using consolidation accounting tools (such as SAP BPC or Oracle HFM)
- Advanced systems skills – particularly MS Office suite, an ERP (such as Oracle or SAP), and Concur Expense Management software
- Soft Skills:
- Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders across the business
- Well-rounded business savvy
- There are a lot of deadlines to juggle in this role; therefore, excellent time management and organizational skills along with a process improvement mindset are all crucial.
- Top-notch communication skills are important in this role (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across many countries and time zones.
How Much:
Competitive base salary commensurate with level of tax skills, experience, and education- likely in the range of $85,000 to $110,000, with a sweet spot of $90,000 to $95,000. Please note that the top end is reserved for candidates who have not only the requirements, but also many of the “nice-to-have” qualifications. The company will provide their new Senior Accountant with a solid overall compensation package, including an annual performance-based bonus, a generous 5 weeks of paid vacation, CPA & professional development support, competitive health & dental benefits and an RRSP match. Where:
HYBRID. The company is headquartered in downtown Vancouver, conveniently accessible by public transit and close to many amenities and shops. Working 4 or 5 days a week in the office (i.e. after training & onboarding, the employee can choose to work from home 1 day a week). The Senior Accountant should have some flexibility on their work hours to hit deadlines and also to communicate & collaborate with colleagues working in various time zones. Please note there may be occasional business travel in this role- mostly domestic and likely maximum of one trip a quarter.
