Who- the Company:
Our client is a large publicly-listed company in the natural resources sector with operations in dozens of countries.
What- the Role:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a new Senior Tax Analyst. This is a very well-rounded tax role involving: BC corporate tax, BC mineral tax compliance, tax planning, tax risk assessment, analyzing large-scale projects for tax costs, indirect taxes, tax filings and provisions, supporting transferring pricing and cross-border taxation, monitoring corporate governance requirements, participating in M&A from a taxation perspective, etc. Working on BC and Canadian taxation for approximately 15 entities (of varying degrees of activity). Utilizing an ERP, a tax preparation software, and plenty of Excel.
Who- the Candidate:
- Public Practice- Training in a multinational public practice firm is required.
- Industry- Experience working in a corporate office (HQ or subsidiary office) of a global public company is preferred, not required.
- Work Experience-
- At least 3 years and ideally 4+ years progressive experience in taxation (Canadian and BC)
- Robust BC tax compliance skills are required
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
- Natural Resources Sector- Experience with the mining sector (in-house or from client portfolio) is preferred, but not required.
- Experience with mineral tax compliance is significant asset.
- Education-
- CPA accounting designation (or International equivalent) is required.
- Pursuit or completion of the In-depth Tax Course and/or a Master’s Degree in Tax is a significant asset.
- Systems: High level of proficiency in Excel is required, including financial modeling skills. Experience using a cloud-based financial system and tax preparation software.
- Soft Skills:
- There are a lot of deadlines to juggle in this role; therefore, excellent time management and organizational skills along with a process improvement mindset are all crucial.
- Top-notch communication skills are important- ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across many countries.
How Much:
Competitive base salary commensurate with level of skills, experience, and education- likely in the range of $90,000 to $120,000. Please note that the top end is reserved for candidates who have not only the requirements, but also many of the “nice-to-have” qualifications. The company will provide their new Senior Tax Analyst with a solid overall compensation package, including an annual performance-based bonus, a generous 5 weeks of paid vacation, CPA & professional development support, competitive health & dental benefits and an RRSP match.
Where:
HYBRID. The company is headquartered in downtown Vancouver, conveniently accessible by public transit and close to many amenities and shops. Working 4 or 5 days a week in the office (i.e. employee can choose to work from home 1 day a week). The Senior Tax Analyst should have some flexibility on their work hours to hit deadlines and also to communicate & collaborate with colleagues working in various time zones. Please note there will be occasional business travel in this role- mostly domestic and likely only one trip a quarter.
