This is a key Canadian corporate tax role where you will take full ownership of a complex legal entity and be the go-to for all tax matters. You will work across compliance, provisions, and audit defence within a reputable, well-established organization.

Who- the Company:

A highly reputable global mining company with significant operations in Canada and internationally. It has a strong corporate presence and well-established mining operations. They are known for being a great place to work and offering strong long-term career stability.

What- the Role:  

Reporting to the Director, Global Tax, this role is responsible for supporting the organization’s corporate tax function with a focus on Canadian tax compliance, provisions, and advisory. The position plays a key role in managing tax filings, supporting audit defence, handling tax balances and installments, and providing timely, well-informed guidance on tax matters.
This individual will take ownership of key legal entity files within the Canadian group and act as a primary point of contact for tax-related matters.

  • Manage the preparation, review, and filing of corporate income tax, mining tax, and information returns, including related elections and filings.
  • Ensure tax payments and installments are completed accurately and on time, while identifying opportunities to optimize tax outcomes.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather required information and support overall compliance requirements.
  • Prepare quarterly current and deferred tax provisions at the legal entity level and support consolidated tax reporting.
  • Maintain and enhance tax models used for provisions, returns, and forecasting, with a focus on efficiency and automation.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and support resolution of tax-related issues through research and analysis.
  • Lead and manage audit defence, including interactions with tax authorities, reassessments, and objections.
  • Oversee tax cash management, including balances, refunds, and payments.
  • Provide tax guidance across the business on both direct and indirect tax matters (e.g., sales tax, SR&ED, transfer pricing, global mobility, employee benefits).
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and accounting standards, assessing impact on filings and reporting.
  • Support and mentor junior team members on specific workstreams as needed.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and provide coverage for team members when required.

Who- the Candidate:

  • CPA designation required, with completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course (Level III preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate tax compliance and/or tax provision work, strong preference for combination of public practice and 3–5 years in industry.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and tax accounting for financial reporting purposes.
  • Experience within a large, publicly traded organization is an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience working in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, D365, JDE) and consolidation tools (e.g., OneStream, HFM).
  • Exposure to data and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau) is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with tax research tools and return preparation software.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a broader team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

How Much:

$119,000-$147,000 a year commensurate with experience + annual performance bonus, profit share plan, health + personal spending account, extended health, vacation, and many additional perks!

Where:

Vancouver, Hybrid work model of in-office/remote, 3 days onsite.
