Offers a collaborative, public-sector environment where professionals can directly influence processes and improve outcomes across the organization.

What- The Role:

This is a contract opportunity supporting the internal audit and risk function within a municipal environment and is open due to an increased workload.
The team is relatively lean and collaborative, currently consisting of four individuals across audit and risk. This role will play a key part in helping the team stay on track with audit plans, operational reviews, and risk-related initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  • Support and execute internal audit engagements from planning through to reporting.
  • Conduct operational and compliance reviews across various departments.
  • Identify risks, control gaps, and areas for process improvement.
  • Develop practical, actionable recommendations to strengthen controls and operations.
  • Partner cross-functionally with stakeholders to gather information and communicate findings.
  • Assist with broader risk-related initiatives as needed.

Who- the Candidate: 

  • 5+ years of experience in internal audit, risk, and a broad range of audits.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills from taking audit finding to report stage.
  • Strong writing experience when it comes to audit reports but also procedural documentation.
  • Experience with fraud/risk and whistleblower policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage deliverables with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgment.
  • A pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships across teams.
  • Experience with public sector or municipal experience (not a deal breaker).

How much:

$65-85/hr + 4% vacation pay.

Where:

Richmond, hybrid schedule, min 3 days onsite.
