What- the Role: 
On behalf of our client, SWIM is recruiting for a Financial Controller. This is a critical, newly emphasized leadership role reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Operations. The position is on-site at the company’s Coquitlam office.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the full month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining strong accounting controls across multiple entities. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial integrity, process discipline, and reporting accuracy across entities, with future expansion as the organization grows.
This role will supervise one direct report, a Junior Accountant, while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations.
We are looking for a highly capable, detail-oriented, and hands-on Controller who is comfortable working in a lean finance environment, balancing both operational execution and process improvement. The ideal candidate is proactive, accountable, and confident working across accounting, reporting, and internal controls.

• Lead and execute the full month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and sub-ledger reconciliation.
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy across AR, AP, payroll, tax, fixed assets, and intercompany balances.
• Prepare monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) and support management reporting packages with variance analysis and KPIs.
• Ensure accurate revenue recognition and compliance with internal accounting policies and standards.
• Maintain strong accounting controls, including development and continuous improvement of SOPs and internal processes.
• Support external audits, including preparation of audit documentation and liaison with auditors.
• Oversee accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, collections, aging, and cash application.
• Oversee accounts payable processing, including invoice coding, approvals, vendor management, and payment runs.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, tax compliance (GST/PST, payroll, corporate taxes), and fixed asset accounting.
• Mentor the Junior Accountant while ensuring high standards of accuracy, deadlines, documentation, and cross-functional communication.

Who- the Candidate: 

We’re seeking a confident, hands-on Controller with 5–10 years of experience who can clearly communicate financial concepts to senior leadership and is comfortable speaking up. This individual thrives in a small, evolving environment—resourceful, adaptable, and willing to roll up their sleeves to manage day-to-day accounting alongside a Junior Accountant.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with senior stakeholders across the organization.

Experience within a professional services environment (e.g., law firms, public practice, or consulting) is an asset, as is a blend of public and industry experience. Working experience with ASPE/IFRS, experience managing multiple entities is required for this role.

Where: 
Based in Coquitlam – 15-minute walk from the nearest SkyTrain station, and close by to many amenities like restaurants and shops. Full-time in office.
 

How Much:

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and skills, likely in the range of $100,000 to $125,000. The high end of the range is reserved for candidates with highly relevant work experience who have many of the “nice to have” qualifications.
