Accountant
Accountant. Part-time 3 days/week. ~6 month Contract. Mount Pleasant neighbourhood in Vancouver. This is a great opportunity for someone who is in-between jobs, who enjoys the variety of contract work, and/or who has been out of the workforce for a little while (perhaps for family reasons?) and is looking to transition back to work with a part-time role, etc. This is also a great place for someone who is interested in technology and/or athletics.
Who- the Company:
Our client is an entrepreneurial Vancouver-based company. The company has a friendly and tight-knit culture with a casual and fun-loving work environment. The company has around 30 employees working in the Vancouver corporate office.
What- the Role:
On behalf of our client, Swim Recruiting is seeking an Accountant on a contract basis. The contract will be approximately 6 months in length (can be shorter, should the contractor prefer a shorter-term). There is some chance of this contract extending or possibly converting to permanent employment due to business needs, but no guarantee. The Accountant will work on a part-time basis- ideally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (Fridays are the day the Accountant will finalize Accounts Payable and sales orders for the week). The Accountant will report into the Controller and will collaborate with folks in sales, HR, manufacturing, etc. The Accountant will be using plenty of Excel as well as a mid-size cloud-based accounting system. The company reports under US GAAP, with multi-currency and multi-entity financial reporting.
What- the Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable daily.
- Prepare and process sales orders weekly via Shopify and Amazon.
- Reconcile bank statements daily or weekly in accounting system.
- Prepare bank and credit card reconciliations spreadsheet for month-end.
- Maintain organized records of invoices and financial documents.
- Monitor shared accounting inbox and liaise with vendors and external contacts.
- Support audits by gathering and organizing required documentation.
- Help ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare month end journal entries and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Controller to meet monthly reporting deadlines.
- Process wire transfers and support basic purchasing functions.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline accounting workflows.
- Other ad hoc accounting related tasks and projects, as assigned.
Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for a well-rounded intermediate level Accountant with skills in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, sales order processing, month-end/quarter-end/year-end close, etc. Candidates must have good proficiency in Excel (various formulas and functions, pivot tables, look-ups, etc.) and using midsize accounting software (such as Sage, QuickBooks, XERO, etc.)
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting or related field.
- 2+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Ideally candidates will be actively enrolled in the Canadian CPA program.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong communications skills.
- Able to multitask and prioritize tasks.
- Independent and a fast learner.
- Proactive, open-minded, and creative with the confidence to speak up and suggest process improvements.
- Flexible and eagerness to work in a fast-paced environment that involves continual adaptation and change.
- Professional attitude handling sensitive information
- Proficiency in Excel is required.
- Experience in manufacturing and an understanding of logistics is an asset.
Where:
Based in a corporate office in the vibrant Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Plenty of amenities nearby- restaurants, cafes, breweries, shops, gyms, etc. There is street parking nearby (paid or unpaid), and the office is close to bus stops, a SkyTrain Station (Science World) and a Canada Line Station (Olympic Village). The Accountant will work from the office Tues/Wed/Fri during training and onboarding. Once they are ramped up, the Part-time Accountant can work from home 1 of the 3 days.
How Much:
Hourly rate commensurate with accounting skills, education, and experience- likely in the range of $27 to $37 an hour. On SWIM’s payroll, with 4% vacation pay and stat holiday pay once eligible. Please discuss your hourly compensation expectations with SWIM!
