Well-established and reputable Vancouver-based company with impressive leadership. Fast-paced, high change, and entrepreneurial work environment, with a friendly and down-to-earth corporate culture. Flexible hybrid work. Downtown Vancouver or possibly Greater Toronto Area.
Who- the Company:
Our client is a successful and reputable mid-size privately-held Canadian organization that was founded over 20 years ago. The company is broadly speaking in the financial services sector but is NOT a bank or credit union. They provide warranty products, but they are NOT really an insurance company. The company is at the intersection of a few different sectors. In addition to their robust business model and corporate achievements, the organization promotes a culture of collaboration and employees are encouraged to contribute positively to the communities they live and work in through volunteering and philanthropy. Very values-based organization.
What- the Role:
Swim Recruiting is seeking a Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis. This is a newly created role. The Manager will report into the Director, FP&A who in turn reports into the CFO. The Manager will directly lead, mentor, and develop 2 Analysts and that team is likely to grow in near-term future. The new Manager, FP&A will oversee the output of the Analyst team.
Working on a broader accounting & finance team of 20+ people, in accounting, treasury, strategic finance, AP, AR, etc. The Manager will be busy with business decision support, partnering with various corporate departments (including sales), leading forecasting & budgeting, operational reporting, ad hoc analysis for the Board and SLT, project management, strategic financial modeling, and giving presentations. The new Manager will be a hands-on leader who will act as a subject matter expert for various levels of operational staff within the organization.
This role contributes to the creation of a work environment that supports teamwork and the achievement of results across all departments and business lines. Using Excel, Power BI, SQL, and a financial system.
There are excellent long-term growth opportunities at this company- the person in this role can develop further within financial planning & analysis (FP&A) or other areas of finance in the coming years. The FP&A Manager will contribute positively to a healthy, engaged, and solutions-oriented corporate culture. SWIM will provide interested/qualified candidates with a full job description.
Who- the Candidate:
- Leadership– We are seeking a proven FP&A leader who has directly managed at least 1 Analyst as a direct report, and preferably 3+ direct reports.
- Qualifications–
- CPA designation is highly preferred, or foundational accounting work experience before pivoting into FP&A (so that the Mgr can collaborate effectively with the accounting team).
- CFA designation is a huge asset.
- Candidates will be business savvy and able to see the big picture while working on the details.
- Work experience with a growing, complex, and multi-entity private organization is preferred.
- Must have excellent business partnering skills, particularly with sales.
- Systems–
- Candidates will have hands-on experience using an ERP and will have advanced proficiency in Excel (ability to do financial modeling, querying, and data analysis, using pivot tables, look-ups, if and sum-if, etc).
- Experience using Power BI and/or SQL is a significant asset, but can be taught to a bright and willing learner.
This is a great role for folks who thrive in a fast-paced, high-change, and entrepreneurial work environment! We are looking for folks who lead by example and who are friendly, humble yet confident, adaptable, resilient, and who can have fun with their team while working hard.
Where:
- Downtown Vancouver or Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

More presence required in the HQ in the first months on the job while establishing relationships with direct reports and senior leaders, and getting to know the company. Longer term, the Mgr FP&A can choose to work from home 2, 3, or even up to 4 days a week, depending on what is going on at the office (2-3 days/week in office is typical, but not mandated). There are frequent on-site team collaboration days and social events. The company has a beautiful headquarters in Vancouver and a smaller corporate office in Greater Toronto.
