Business Operations Manager
Who- the Organization:
Swim Recruiting has been exclusively engaged by Community Land Trust on this important search and will be conducting all screening and interviewing on behalf of our client. Established by the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC), CLT is a non-profit social purpose real estate developer creating permanently affordable housing solutions for people, with a focus on co-operative homes. We currently hold a portfolio of 2,100 homes and commercial spaces valued at almost $600M across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Island, with many hundreds more under construction and active development. The team of skilled industry professionals at CLT is focused on creating and advocating for inclusive communities that members and residents are proud to call home. CLT is growing and expects their portfolio to exceed 3,500 homes in the next three years.
What- the Role:
Business Operations Manager. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, and supporting three Senior Managers, this position will increase the efficiency of CLT’s business operations by working with all departments to improve systems and promote cross-functional team dynamics. Representing the CLT’s operations, the Business Operations Manager will liaise with CHF BC’s subsidiaries to align internal office systems, risk management, IT systems, human resources, planning, and communications. The new Manager will ensure that all operations run smoothly and align with sound business practices and will also take the lead in engaging senior managers to implement process improvements. The Business Operations Manager will manage a variety of projects, in different areas of the business and with varying stakeholders, budgets, and timelines.
Who- the Candidate:
This is an incredible opportunity for someone who is not afraid to tackle challenges and who enjoys collaborating with different groups to come up with common solutions. The successful candidate will be personable, outgoing and adaptable with a keen eye on detail and risk management front of mind. We are looking for people with 7+ years of progressive and relevant work experience. Prior tenures in professional services firms will be viewed very favourably- for example, experience working for an accounting firm, law firm, consulting firm, etc., particularly if these were matrixed organizations with multiple offices and/or partnering closely with a parent company/head office. Experience in not-for-profit or real estate development sectors is an asset, but not at all required.
We are looking for candidates who have proven experience collaborating with leaders to develop and implement operational plans and strategic plans that align with an organization’s short and long-term goals. The ideal person for this position will be an organized individual with a proven ability to multi-task, problem-solve and prioritize challenging workloads independently.
Qualified candidates will have experience implementing and optimizing office systems, coordinating IT system improvements, and managing risk through cyber-security and fraud risk assessments (working with external IT consultants and/or the IT team at CHF as needed). Experience with meaningful cross-departmental collaboration and communication (human resources, finance, marketing, IT, etc.) is required.
Experience writing clear and concise business reports for senior leadership is necessary in this role.
Ideally candidates will also have experience overseeing insurance renewals and contributing to RFPs (on both sides of the RFP process- bidding and reviewing).
The new Business Operations Manager will ensure a welcoming and efficient work environment that supports a team of engaged, collaborative, and fulfilled employees.

The Business Operations Manager will be based out of Community Land Trust’s corporate office on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. Option to work from home 1 day/week.
