Our client has a dynamic corporate culture and the Accounting & Finance department employs close to 40 people. This is a private organization that has exciting plans for the years to come.

What- the Role:
SWIM has been engaged on behalf of our Client to find them a new Accountant who will report to the Assistant Controller. This is a very interesting role in which the Accountant will take ownership for a specific area of the complex company’s accounting function. The Accountant will be doing the full-cycle accounting and analysis of the corporation’s payroll, benefits, and pension plan costs.  This role has an emphasis on cross-departmental relationship building, process improvement, and system optimization. The Accountant sits on the financial reporting team and liaises closely with the payroll team (that team does the actual payroll processing and benefits administration, that’s not part of the Accountant’s responsibilities).  

The Accountant will be directly responsible for the day to day compensation & benefits accounting, reconciliations, budgeting & forecasting, and will also have a long-term perspective and will be able to tackle both short-term and long-term projects related to processes, controls, internal communication, policies, etc. The Accountant will use the company’s cloud-based ERP system and plenty of Excel and will also pull data from the company’s payroll system. Who- the Candidate:
We are seeking a well-rounded accountant with recent and relevant payroll accounting experience. Hands-on payroll processing skills is an asset as it will help the Accountant understand the compensation accounting at a deeper level, but it is not required. Candidates will be excited to work for a large, complex, stable, and high-profile Vancouver organization.

  • At least 5 years of recent, relevant, and progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years specializing in payroll/compensation/benefits accounting.  

  • Some form of post-secondary accounting education is required, such as a degree, diploma, or certificate.

  • CPA designation is highly preferred- almost required- at this time. 

  • Ideally seeking candidates with experience in a large and complex organization with a payroll of 1000+ employees, a large accounting department, and sophisticated systems.

  • Excellent reconciliations experience.

  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.

  • Financial reporting skills, particularly in ASPE, ASPNO, and/or IFRS.

  • Systems savvy:

    • Experience with an ERP, ideally a cloud-based system.

    • Proficiency in Excel

    • Exposure to payroll software (Ceridian, ADP, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills with a team player attitude, the ability to build lasting business relationships, and to partner with people at all levels and in various departments.

Where:
HYBRID. Lower Mainland, transit accessible and plenty of free employee parking nearby. Most employees are working from the office 3-4 days a week. Please discuss your work-from-home needs with SWIM.

How Much:
Base salary is commensurate with experience, education/qualifications, and skills, plus an annual performance-based bonus and 4 weeks vacation. Employees can choose to participate in a generous RRSP-matching plan after 3 months of tenure. Health & dental benefits (from Day 1 of employment).
